What is piezo ultrasonic rhinoplasty?
Piezo rhinoplasty is a way of working on the nasal bones with ultrasonic instruments instead of chisels and saws. The vibrating tip cuts bone and has less effect on the skin, mucosa and blood vessels around it.
It is not a separate operation. It is a technique used within primary, revision or preservation rhinoplasty when the bones need to be shaped.
How is piezo ultrasonic rhinoplasty performed?
The ultrasonic tip vibrates at a frequency that cuts bone. Skin, mucosa and blood vessels are less affected than with conventional instruments.
It is usually combined with an open approach and can be used in primary, revision and preservation rhinoplasty.
- Planning: photos and a video consultation show whether the nasal bones need shaping, for example for a hump or a wide bony bridge.
- Examination in Istanbul confirms the plan and the technique.
- The operation under general anaesthesia, usually 2 to 4 hours, most often with an open approach that gives a direct view of the bone.
- The ultrasonic instrument: its vibrating tip cuts and files the bone in small, controlled steps.
- Soft tissue around the bone is protected, because the instrument has little effect on skin, mucosa and blood vessels.
- The tip and the cartilage are shaped with conventional techniques in the same operation.
- One night in hospital, then rest at the hotel until the splint comes off after about 7 days.
Who is piezo ultrasonic rhinoplasty for?
- Patients who need work on the nasal bones: a hump, or a wide or crooked bony bridge.
- It is not needed when only the cartilage of the tip is changed.
When it may not be the right choice
- Noses where only the tip cartilage changes: no bone work is needed, so piezo adds nothing.
- Patients who expect piezo to remove swelling. It can reduce bruising for many patients, but swelling follows the usual timeline.
- Patients choosing a surgeon only for the instrument. The plan and the experience matter more than the tool.
Can breathing be treated in the same operation?
Yes. Piezo is a way to shape bone, and it is combined with work on the septum and turbinates when they block the airway. It is often part of a preservation rhinoplasty.
Narrowing a wide bony bridge can affect the airway if it is done without care. Dr. Delioğlu, an ENT and head and neck surgeon, plans the bone work with the airway in mind.
How is the operation planned?
Piezo is useful when there is work on the bony part of the nose: a hump, a wide bony bridge or bones that are crooked. If only the cartilage of the tip is changed, it is not needed.
The examination decides whether the bones need to be shaped and how.
How much does piezo ultrasonic rhinoplasty cost in Turkey?
Piezo rhinoplasty in Turkey generally costs $3,500 to $6,500. The instrument is part of the operation, not a separate charge on top of a rhinoplasty plan.
Your exact price comes with your written plan after the photo review. See the cost page for all six operations.
- How much needs to change: the bridge, the tip, the width, or all of them.
- Whether the septum and turbinates are treated for breathing in the same operation.
- Whether cartilage grafts are needed, and where they come from.
- The hospital, the length of the stay and what your package includes.
General range in Turkey. Your exact price comes with your personal plan after the photo review, with hotel and transfers included where your package has them.
All prices and what is includedWhat is recovery like after piezo ultrasonic rhinoplasty?
- Day 1
- Discharge from hospital. Rest at the hotel with the head raised.
- Day 7
- The splint and stitches are removed at the clinic.
- Weeks 2 to 3
- Most of the bruising has faded. Most patients return to desk work.
- Week 6
- Sport is usually allowed again after the surgeon’s check.
- Month 3
- Most of the visible swelling has gone. The tip is still settling.
- Months 6 to 12
- The remaining swelling, mostly at the tip, goes down slowly. The final shape develops over this period.
How long should I stay in Istanbul?
Plan 7 to 10 days in Istanbul, the same as for a first rhinoplasty: examination, one night in hospital and rest until the splint comes off.
Less bruising can make the days in Istanbul easier, but the date of your flight still depends on the splint removal. Do not book the return flight before the plan is confirmed. If the surgeon asks you to stay a day or two longer for a check, the team helps you change the dates. The guide to rhinoplasty in Turkey covers the whole trip.
When will I see the final result?
Many patients have less bruising around the eyes than with conventional instruments, but swelling and bruising still vary from person to person.
The splint is removed after about a week, and the shape develops over the following months like in any rhinoplasty.
What are the risks, and how are they reduced?
Piezo changes how the bone is shaped. The risks of rhinoplasty otherwise stay the same.
- Bruising and swelling: often less bruising around the eyes, but it varies from person to person.
- Longer operation: bone work with piezo can take a little more time. This is planned in advance.
- Small irregularities on the bridge: uncommon. Filing the bone in small steps lowers the risk.
- Bleeding and infection: uncommon, reduced by stopping blood thinners, operating in a hospital and following wound care.
- Anaesthesia risks: assessed before surgery. An anaesthetist is with you throughout.
