Is Turkey a good place for rhinoplasty?
Turkey is one of the most common destinations for nose surgery, and Istanbul has many surgeons who operate on patients from abroad every week. For someone travelling, three things usually decide: the cost, the waiting time and the surgeon’s experience with the kind of nose they have.
What makes it work for patients from abroad
- Cost: surgery, hospital, hotel and transfers are usually offered as one package, so you know the total before you travel.
- Time: there is usually no waiting list. Dates are agreed as soon as your plan is ready.
- Distance: Istanbul is a direct flight from most of Europe and from many cities in North America, the Gulf and Asia.
- Clinics set up for travellers: the visits, the hotel and the check-ups are planned for people who stay one to two weeks and then go home.
What it does not change
A lower price does not make the operation simpler. Nose surgery is one of the most demanding operations on the face, and the result depends on the surgeon’s planning and technique, not on the country. So the real question is less “Turkey or not?” and more “which surgeon, and how is my follow-up organised once I am home?”. The checklist further down this page helps with that, and Is it safe to have rhinoplasty in Turkey? goes into safety in more detail.
Who is rhinoplasty for, and who should wait?
Rhinoplasty changes the shape of the nose, the way it works, or both. It suits adults whose face has finished growing and who have a clear idea of what bothers them.
It usually suits you if
- your nose has finished growing, which for most people means 18 or older
- a hump, a wide or drooping tip, a crooked nose or a nose that looks large for your face bothers you
- you breathe poorly through one or both sides, for example because of a deviated septum
- you had nose surgery before and the shape or your breathing is not right (revision)
- you are in good general health and can take about two weeks away from work
It is better to wait if
- you had a nose injury or a nose operation less than about a year ago
- you want the nose of a particular person, or expect the operation to change how you feel about your whole appearance
- you smoke and cannot stop for the weeks before and after surgery
- you have a medical condition that is not under control, or take blood thinners that cannot be paused
- someone else is pushing you to have it done
These points are discussed at the online consultation. If surgery is not the right step for you, we say so.
Which technique will I have?
There is no single “Turkish rhinoplasty”. The technique is chosen for your nose at the examination, and some operations combine two of them. These are the six types of nose surgery performed at the clinic:
- Primary Rhinoplasty First surgery on the nose.
- Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery on a nose operated on before.
- Ethnic Rhinoplasty Changes the proportions, keeps the features.
- Septorhinoplasty Shape and breathing in one operation.
- Piezo Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty Ultrasonic shaping of the nasal bones.
- Preservation Rhinoplasty The bridge is lowered, not removed.
Open or closed rhinoplasty?
In closed rhinoplasty all incisions are inside the nostrils. In open rhinoplasty a small incision is added across the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils, which gives a direct view of the tip cartilages.
| Closed | Open | |
|---|---|---|
| Incisions | Inside the nose only | Inside the nose plus a small one under the tip |
| Often chosen for | Humps, moderate changes, many preservation cases | Complex tips, marked asymmetry, many revisions |
| Visible scar | None | Small, usually hard to see once healed |
Preservation rhinoplasty lowers a hump while keeping the natural bridge of the nose instead of removing and rebuilding it. Piezo surgery shapes bone with ultrasonic instruments, which is gentler on the surrounding soft tissue. Both are tools: whether they suit you depends on your nose. Can breathing problems be fixed in the same operation?
Yes, in most cases. A deviated septum, enlarged turbinates or a weak nasal valve can be corrected in the same operation as the change in shape. This combined operation is called septorhinoplasty.
Dr. Delioğlu is an ENT (ear, nose and throat) and head and neck surgeon, so the inside of the nose is examined at every consultation, not only the outside. A nose that looks better but breathes worse is not a good result. If you snore, often have one blocked side or once broke your nose, mention it in your medical history.

How much does a nose job cost in Turkey?
Nose surgery in Turkey generally costs $3,000 to $8,500, depending on the technique. A first rhinoplasty sits at the lower end of that range, a revision with cartilage grafts at the upper end. These are ranges, not a quote: your exact price comes with your written plan after the photo review.
Most packages include the operation, one night in hospital, hotel nights at a partner hotel, transfers, medication, the check-ups in Istanbul and online follow-up. Flights and travel insurance are not included. The price range for each technique, what changes the price and what to check in any quote are on the rhinoplasty cost page.
How does the trip work, step by step?
- Photos and medical history. You send photos of your face from the front, the side and below, and a short medical history. The easiest way to start is the online nose analysis.
- Online consultation. Dr. Delioğlu reviews your photos and talks you through your goals, the technique and the limits on a video call.
- Written plan and quote. You receive the technique, the dates, the length of stay and the total price in writing.
- Arrival. You are met at the airport and taken to your hotel.
- Examination. The day before surgery you are examined at the clinic in Etiler and the plan is confirmed.
- Surgery. The operation takes 2 to 3 hours under general anaesthesia at a partner hospital. You stay one night.
- Rest. You rest at the hotel with your head raised. The team stays in touch on WhatsApp.
- Check-up. About 7 days after surgery the splint and stitches are removed at the clinic.
- Home. You fly home after the check-up, and follow-up continues online.
Hotels, transfers and travelling with a companion are explained on the international patients page.
How long should I stay in Istanbul, and when can I fly home?
For a first rhinoplasty, plan 7 to 10 days in Istanbul. For a revision, plan 10 to 14 days, because the splint often stays on a little longer.
You can fly home after the check-up where the splint and stitches are removed, about 7 days after surgery. On the flight, drink water, skip alcohol and use the saline spray you are given. If you face a long flight, for example to Australia, New Zealand or the west coast of North America, tell us when you choose your dates so the check-up can be timed well.
Travelling with a companion
A companion can stay with you in hospital. In the first days at the hotel it helps to have someone with you for meals, cold compresses and short walks. If you travel alone, tell the team so they can plan for it.
What is recovery like?
Recovery is gradual. What other people notice, the splint and the bruising, is mostly gone in about two weeks. The swelling inside, especially at the tip, takes months to settle.
- Day 1
- Discharge from hospital. Rest at the hotel with the head raised.
- Day 7
- The splint and stitches are removed at the clinic.
- Weeks 2 to 3
- Most of the bruising has faded. Most patients return to desk work.
- Week 6
- Sport is usually allowed again after the surgeon’s check.
- Month 3
- Most of the visible swelling has gone. The tip is still settling.
- Months 6 to 12
- The remaining swelling, mostly at the tip, goes down slowly. The final shape develops over this period.
Swelling, pain and getting back to daily life
Swelling is strongest in the first two to three days and then goes down. If you have bruising around the eyes, it usually fades within two weeks. Sleeping with your head raised, cold compresses in the first days and avoiding salt, alcohol and heat all help. Thick skin and revision noses tend to stay swollen longer at the tip.
Most patients describe pressure and a blocked nose rather than strong pain. Painkillers are prescribed for the first days.
- Desk work: usually in weeks 2 to 3.
- Sport: usually from week 6, after the surgeon’s check.
- Glasses: avoid resting them on the nose in the first weeks; ask at your check-up when it is safe.
- Sun: protect the nose from strong sun in the first months.

How do you choose a rhinoplasty surgeon in Turkey, and is it safe?
Rhinoplasty is a common, well-established operation. Like any surgery it has risks: bleeding, infection, breathing problems, asymmetry or a result that later needs a revision. They are kept low by careful patient selection, a hospital with full anaesthesia support and a clear plan for follow-up. These questions help you judge any clinic, in Turkey or anywhere else:
- Who will operate? You should know the surgeon’s name, specialty and training, and meet them before the day of surgery.
- Where will the operation take place? It should be a licensed hospital with an anaesthesiologist.
- Is the inside of the nose examined? Breathing should be part of the plan.
- Is the plan in writing? Technique, dates, length of stay and the total price.
- What happens if something comes up after you go home? Ask who answers, how, and for how long.
- Are the before and after photos of the surgeon’s own patients, taken in the same light and angle?
- Is anyone pushing you to decide quickly, or promising a result? That is a reason to pause.
At Rhinoplusty one surgeon is with you from the first consultation to the follow-up, operations take place in partner hospitals with one night’s stay, and follow-up continues online after you go home.
Rhinoplasty in Turkey or at home: what changes?
The operation is the same surgery wherever it is done. What changes is how the care around it is organised.
| In Istanbul | At home (UK, US, France…) | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Usually lower, offered as a package with hotel and transfers | Usually higher; no travel needed |
| Waiting time | Dates agreed once the plan is ready | Depends on the surgeon; public health systems rarely cover cosmetic nose surgery |
| Consultations | Online first, then in person the day before surgery | Usually several visits in person |
| Time away | 7 to 10 days in Istanbul, then rest at home | Recovery at home from day one |
| Follow-up | In person in Istanbul, then online | In person |
If you travel, plan the follow-up from the start: who you will contact once you are home, and when you will send photos. Keep a written summary of your operation so a local doctor can see it if needed.
What happens after I go home?
You fly home after the check-up, but follow-up does not stop. You send photos at set times during the first year and questions are answered on WhatsApp. Online check-ups continue in the months after surgery, wherever you live. This is the “plus” in Rhinoplusty.
- Expect small changes from week to week as the swelling goes down.
- The tip is the last area to settle.
- Heavy bleeding, fever, increasing pain or new difficulty breathing: contact us and a local doctor straight away.
